Genital warts cause
To date, there are about a hundred types of human papillomavirus, of which about forty are sexually transmitted. The causative agent of genital warts refers to one of the types of HPV (the family of papovoviruses). Genital warts are caused by 6 and 11 types of human papillomavirus (HPV). In most cases, infection with this disease occurs sexually and often occurs asymptomatically. Being in the human body in the latent state, the human papillomavirus is activated only if there are factors favorable for it (at the time of reduction for some reason the immune defense). The development of genital warts is favored by the following local stimuli: pregnancy; discharge from the urethra, vagina and rectum; congestion of smegma, maceration.
. In the survey, genital warts are detected in 70% of cases in both sexual partners, and quite often they are combined with other sexually transmitted diseases . . In most cases, genital warts tend to be benign, but sometimes they are degenerated into carcinoma . That is why, in order to prevent cancer, genital warts, regardless of their location, shape and size are always subject to removal, especially since self-healing from this disease is never observed.
Genital warts occur equally often in people of both sexes, leading an active sexual life (usually in the age of 20 to 25 years). The incubation period of this disease ranges from three weeks to nine months and is on average about three months
Genital warts symptoms
In most cases, genital warts tend to look like small tumors that sit on a short stem or thin thread and resemble a cock's comb or cauliflower. Data of education can be both plural and single and in some cases (more often in women) can reach rather large sizes. The main localization of genital warts is the area of the anus, perineum and genitalia. Depending on the location, the formation data can be bright red, pale pink or flesh colored. If hygiene or irritation of genital warts is not observed, they are macerated, eroded, and in some cases even ulcerated by secreting a purulent discharge with an unpleasant odor
Pointed condylomas in men are mainly localized on the head and neck of the glans penis, on the foreskin; in the area of the outlet of the urethra, and in some cases also in the canal itself. In the perianal region (the anus area) genital warts are most often found in homosexuals, but may also be in heterosexual men
Pointed condylomas in women most often affect the small and large labia, the posterior lip adhesion; less often - the cervix and the walls of the vagina. Isolated lesions with these formations of the cervix and the external opening of the urethra are extremely rare. With anal and oral sex, the area of the anus and oropharynx is affected.
Patients with this disease complain of pain sensations of an uncertain nature in the genital area and in the lower abdomen, as well as unpleasant sensations when urinating
Genital warts complications
- From constant friction about underwear, condylomas can fall off, and in their place extremely painful bleeding ulcers are formed
- In the absence of timely treatment, genital warts are prone to suppuration
- Lack of treatment leads to the formation of more and more warts. Sometimes it comes to the fact that in especially neglected cases in the genital area, the patient no longer sees a piece of healthy skin
- Due to the prolonged course of papillomavirus infection of the genitals, there is a sharp decrease in immunity, which entails the susceptibility of a person to any infectious disease. In case the patient already has any chronic inflammatory disease (especially the pelvic organs), it is necessarily aggravated
- There are known cases of onset genital warts of cancerous lesions
Genital Warts Treatment
Unfortunately, to date, there is no specific drug that can destroy the causative agent of papillomavirus infection of the genitals, as a result of which treatment is limited to immunocorrective therapy and local removal of genital warts. The effectiveness of most existing methods of treatment is within 70%, while the relapse rate exceeds 25%.
: Methods of treatment of genital warts :
. - Laser therapy . This method consists in the effect on the condyloma of a directed beam of laser beams, under the influence of which the tissue of condyloma evaporates and in its place remains a scab (dry crust). Seven days after laser therapy, recovery comes
. - Diathermocoagulation . This method of treatment consists in the action of an electron knife or high temperatures of high-frequency radiation. The use of this method requires the mandatory application of local anesthesia. In most cases, a week after this type of treatment, the patient returns to a full sexual life
. - Treatment with prescription means, in which concentrated acids are present . Most often after only one application on the spot of genital warts remains only a small scab, which itself falls away after a few days
. - Cryotherapy . This method of treatment consists in removing genital warts with liquid nitrogen. A small amount of this substance is applied to the condyloma by freezing it, exposing its protein content to destruction. After this procedure, condyloma soon disappears on its own, leaving behind a small wound, which usually heals in one to two weeks. This method is considered quite convenient and safe.
